19th May 2022 The day started early yet again at 08:30 AM. Everyone gathered and we boarded the bus to be on our way to the Drogarati cave, the subterranean Lake Melissani and the village of Fiskardo. This day was meant for us to experience the natural sites and beauty of Kefalonia.  The Drogarati cave was moderately deep underground and the interior was filled with stalagmites and stalactites. The air inside was moist and cool in contrast to the warmth on the surface. Scientists say that the cave was uncovered by an earthquake nearly 300 years ago, but the overall formation of the cave has lasted far longer - around 150 million years. Next up was Lake Melissani. The first emotion was just WOW. I feel like nobody had ever seen something so enchanting before. The water inside was the clearest blue I had ever seen. The boatman told us that the maximum depth was around 30 meters and even in the deeper spots you could see the bottom as clear as ever. To me, the most interesting inhabitan

On Wednesday, 18th of May, we visited the “Merchant Marine Academy”. Before that we tested the water’s temperature and nitrate content. Then we walked besides the sea and saw a water wheel. At the academy we had a lecture about the academy and also the ports in Greece. After that the director of the academy showed us the simulations in the school. They were really interesting and some of us felt like they were literally on the ship. Then we had free time and went to eat lunch and also to the Gradakia beach. That was a wonderful day and we had a good time with our friends. Written by Rebecca Mossin

On May 16 we had the pleasure of visiting the school where the Greek students study. Where we were greeted by the headmaster of the school. After that the Greek students gave us a tour of the school building and the classrooms. Then we had a lecture about the biology and math of Caretta caretta. After which we made our own presentations on the topic “Our port is an ecosystem” that were put together before the trip. When we left the school after the presentations we went to have lunch all together. Finished with lunch we had time for ourselves and we got to go and experience the city of Argostoli and its beaches. At about 8 pm all participants went on a walk around the city to see its most beautiful sights that the city had to offer. At the end of the walk we had time to go find ourselves some food and all participating students got to enjoy the evening together. Written by Villiam Visnapu

The first day of our project we went to Lixouri. There we visited the Kephalonian fishery - the hatchery. The representative of the company showed us the life cycle of fish and how they feed them. At the end of the tour they gave us beautiful blue caps. After the fishery we went to the center of the city and tried our first Greek coffees. We were there with nice Greek boys and girls. They told us great stories about how they spend their free time in Kefalonia and how their school system works. In the afternoon we went back to Kefalonia and had lunch with the teachers. After that we had free time so we just chill with others. Written by Angela Raidmets
